Care and Washing Instruction

Initial Rinses
Rinse batik two or three times in cold water to remove excess dye. There will be some colour bleeding. This is normal and does not mean that the colour of the fabric will fade.
Please do this for all hand dyed batik fabric, e.g.: hand printed, hand stamped and hand drawn.

Separate Colours
Separate and wash similar colours together. This will help to avoid or minimise staining to lighter colour fabrics.

Washing Methods
Hand washing is preferred than machine washing. If you need to wash batik in a washing machine, please make sure that it is set to gentle cycle.
It is recommended to only hand wash hand drawn batik. This will help to preserve the colours of the batik and keep the fabric to last longer. Do no wring batik too hard when removing excess moisture.

Detergents
Please avoid using harsh chemicals when washing batik fabric. Please use gentle detergent only. Do not bleach batik fabric.
Traditionally hand drawn batik is washed by using lerak (Sapindus Rarak). Lerak is natural detergent that is commonly used to wash batik fabric to maintain the colour quality of the batik.
If lerak is not easily available, gentle baby shampoo can be used instead.

Drying and Storing
Do not wring batik too hard when removing excess moisture.
Line dry under shades. Please do not dry batik under direct sunlight as it may cause the colours to fade.
Iron with warm setting. Layer a thin material on top of the batik to further protect it from the iron.
Keep batik in a dry place, away from direct sunlight.
