Our Specialties
Hand Drawn Batik (Batik Tulis)
‘Tulis’ means ‘write’ in Indonesian. As the name suggest, this type of batik is created by “writing” (or drawing) a desired design with hot melted wax onto fabric. The fabric then submerged into fabric dye. The area that will not take the colour of the dye are the areas where the wax was drawn. This method is also called “wax-resist” dyeing method.
Hand Stamped Batik (Batik Cap)
The difference between batik tulis and batik cap is the method used to apply the melted wax. In the ‘cap’ method, the wax is stamped by using a copper block stamp. This allows batik artists to create batik faster than the tulis method. As you would have guessed, ‘cap’ means ‘stamp’ in Indonesian.
Hand Printed Batik
This is a more modern way to create batik where the fabric is dyed using the hand screen printed method. By utilising this method, batik artists are able to create more batiks in a short time. This method also allows them to create a design with more intricate details. Printed batik is more common and more affordable.
